When damage from new construction activity necessitated a planting restoration at this site, O’Dell Engineering, a Westwood company was approached to provide landscape design services to replant a riparian area west of the Women’s Faculty Club on the UC Berkeley campus. We navigated the challenges of an existing steep slope to a creek and a high vehicular traffic zone by incorporating creative solutions, such as use of large boulders to deter vehicular traffic and plant species that can naturally provide erosion control over time. We also proposed irrigation upgrades that minimized disturbances to the existing mature redwood trees adjacent to Strawberry Creek. Besides providing construction documents, a member of our team also helped locate plants on site with the campus team and contractors.
