Earlimart Neighborhood Park Awarded the California Park & Recreation Society Award of Excellence

By admin

Earlimart Neighborhood Park received the California Park & Recreation Society Award of Excellence for Neighborhood Class 1 in the Excellence in Park Planning & Development category. This four-acre park is a progressive joint-use facility (between the County and the Earlimart Unified School District) in a very small country town. It is the town’s first and only park and now provides the community with active turf open space, picnic facilities, custom multi-sport courts, an outdoor classroom, playgrounds, a community garden, and a performance stage. The park features an aggressively engineered and aesthetically pleasing system of infiltration swales and gabion site features to direct and filter stormwater runoff. Local high school students were involved in the design of artwork displayed on the shade structure. They designed cartoon tiles that represented life in their community. The park is a special gift of culture and a shining example of what communities can do over time with a common goal.

Earlimart Neighborhood Park was previously also awarded the American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA) California Sierra Chapter 2018 Honor Award and the American Public Works Association (APWA) Central California Chapter 2018 Public Works Project of the Year Award.
