O’Dell Engineering News: O’Dell Makes Donation to the ASLA Center for Landscape Architecture

By admin

LAC1O’Dell Engineering is now a proud sponsor of the future state-of-the-art American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA) Center for Landscape Architecture. The Sierra Chapter of ASLA California graciously made a $15,000 donation to the center, and sought out additional funding from member firms to further bolster support for the project. O’Dell happily supported the endeavor as an 1899 Society sponsor. Many O’Dell staff, including Associate Landscape Architect Chad Kennedy, are heavily involved with the Sierra Chapter. The firm advocates strongly for the advancement of the landscape architecture profession and is dedicated to supporting the industry’s growth.

Located in Washington, D.C.’s historic Chinatown, the ASLA Center for Landscape Architecture will be a true embodiment of the core design principles of the profession. The 12,000 square foot building currently serves as the Society’s headquarters.  Though the location, situated between Capitol Hill and the White House, is absolutely incredible, the current building itself is not. Not only will the renovation enhance the space into a beautiful environment conducive for creative work, it will also exude the professions passion for efficiency by being designed to LEED Platinum and WELL™ Silver building standards. The new center will provide flexible space for exhibitions, educational programs, ASLA’s meeting needs, and potential staff growth.

A highlight of the new center will be its enhanced street presence. The street level will feature a state-of-the-art meeting, reception, and exhibition space ideal for events, educational programs, and presentations alike. A three-story atrium featuring light-harvesting technology will complement the existing award-winning green roof. This unique building element will not only provide natural light to efficiently brighten the work space, it will also serve as a remarkable design element which expresses the profession’s commitment to green, sustainable design principles.

O’Dell is thrilled to be involved in the evolution of this important and innovative project. We look forward to seeing the design elements of the center realized, and to the continued growth and advancement of the landscape architecture industry nationwide.
