In The News: Google to Expand Footprint at Castle Airport

On Friday May 2, 2014 the Modesto Bee reported that Google had signed a deal to expand its footprint at Castle Airport in Merced County. According to the article, this is the company’s second lease agreement at the airport. It had leased 60 acres of land at the airport as part of its program to develop a self-driving car. As part of the new agreement, Google will be leasing a hangar to facilitate testing and development of its Project Loon, which uses high altitude balloons to provide wireless internet service. Merced County officials were pleased with the new agreement, and according to the article, they hope the relationship between the County and Google will continue to grow.
