May 10, 2014
On Friday May 2, 2014, in an article entitled “Next Steps Taken On City Plan”, the Modesto Bee reported the City of Modesto has taken additional steps to update its general plan. The general plan serves as the document that guides future urban grown in and around the city. According to the article the City Council has approved a new land use map as part of the general plan update. This map shows land designated for housing, business parks, and agriculture. The article also mentions that farmland advocate Denny Jackman and farmer Jack Wenger are working to put an urban boundary limit for Modesto on the ballot for voters. If the limit is approved, changes would be needed to the current update being discussed for the city’s general plan.
