Stanislaus County Road Tax Not Well-Supported in Polls

On Monday, March 3rd, 2014 the Modesto Bee Newspaper reported that a road tax proposed by the Stanislaus County Council of Governments received lukewarm support. According to the article, the poll was conducted by Pathways and was sent to potential voters by mail. The poll indicated 53% of voters would currently support the sales tax to support road improvements, well below the 2/3 threshold needed for approval. The article also mentioned that language describing the tax in polling description materials didn’t mention that 6% of the funds raised would support rail and bicycle projects.
