On Tuesday, February 25, 2014 the Modesto Bee Newspaper reported that the Stanislaus County Council of Governments (STANCOG) will discuss a proposed ½% sales tax to fund transportation projects with the City of Turlock. According to the article, the tax would raise 970 million dollars for transportation projects over the next 25 years.

The tax would pay for three (3) types of projects. 47% of the tax money would fund major east-west road projects. 47% of the tax money would fund the repair of county roads and city streets. The remaining 6% of the tax money would fund rail, bicycle, and pedestrian transportation projects.

The City of Turlock would get 2.69 million dollars each year for street improvement projects under the STANCOG tax proposal. The tax would also fund a east-west road project to connect Highway 99 in Turlock to Interstate 5 in Patterson.
